1kg of gold seized from flyer, staffer

Ahmedabad: Customs officials seized 1kg of gold bars from members of the ground staff at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport here last week.
Customs officials had intercepted a handling staffer working at the airport on grounds of suspicion.
“On searching him, the staffer was found to be carrying two gold bars and a pouch containing gold paste.On interrogation, he said he was handed the gold by a flyer inside the airport. After officials intercepted the passenger, 1kg of gold was recovered and both have been arrested,” a statement from Ahmedabad customs states.
Last week, Ahmedabad customs seized 5kg of gold at the city airport that was concealed in a mixer, CCTV camera, electric kettle and as gold paste in undergarments.
About 90kg of gold was seized at SVPI airport from April to December 2023. The modes of smuggling included concealment in paste form in undergarments, paste capsules concealed in the rectum, gold rods concealed in a microscope, foreign origin gold hidden aboard the aircraft and inside perfume bottles, among others. Smuggled foreign currency and numerous phones have also been seized.
