The UK’s competition watchdog has launched an initial investigation into the huge investment by Microsoft in OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT.
In a statement on Friday, the Competition and Markets Authority said it was seeking views from interested parties on whether Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in OpenAI had led to a “relevant merger situation”, in which two or more companies have ceased or will cease to be distinct following a transaction.
