Unions representing workers at Chevron’s (NYSE:CVX) Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities in Australia have reaffirmed their plan to resume strikes this week.
The unions vowed to resume the walkouts after an in-principle deal that ended weeks of strikes in September fell apart earlier this month, as the unions claimed that the oil and gas major reneged on commitments.
Australia’s industrial arbitrator, the Fair Work Commission, mediated three days of talks last week and asked the Offshore Alliance to withdraw the strike plan while talks continued, Reuters reported.
Members of the Offshore Alliance, a partnership between two unions, voted 91% in favor of strikes starting October 19 after failing to reach an agreement on key demands.
Chevron (CVX) said late on Sunday it was “extremely disappointed” by the vote to stick with the strike plan.
The Gorgon and Wheatstone sites together account for around 6% of the global LNG supply.
