Miguel Patricio, the current CEO and board chair of The Kraft Heinz Co., will be stepping down from the post at the end of the year.

Patricio has served in the top role at the Pittsburgh and Chicago dual-headquartered company since 2019. Upon stepping down from the role of CEO, he will become non-executive chair of the board on Jan. 1, 2024.

Carlos Abrams-Rivera, who is the current president of the North America zone at the company, will take over the role. He will remain in his current role until the transition, but effective immediately, he is taking on the additional role of president of the company.

“Carlos is the best person to lead the next phase of the Company’s transformation,” Patricio said in a release. “His strategic and innovative mindset is ideal to continue to propel Kraft Heinz forward on our path to greatness. Since joining Kraft Heinz in 2020, he has consistently delivered strong results in the North American retail and Away From Home businesses. Carlos’ experience in both developed and emerging markets complements our ambition for growth. I feel privileged to entrust Carlos with the leadership of this great company, and I am confident that Kraft Heinz is poised for more growth in the years to come.”

Prior to serving as CEO of Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ: KHC), Patricio was a longtime executive at AB InBev. He stepped into the role following the departure of Bernardo Hees, who left Kraft Heinz and previously, H.J. Heinz Co. after it was acquired by 3G Capital and Berkshire Hathaway. 3G Capital, a Brazilian private equity firm, also owns AB InBev.

Abrams-Rivera, before joining Kraft Heinz, was an executive at Campbell Soup Co.

“I am humbled and honored to be appointed as the new CEO of Kraft Heinz. I would like to thank Miguel for his mentorship, all he has done to rekindle the spirit of Kraft Heinz and our culture, and for his partnership, now and in the future,” Abrams-Rivera said in a release. “I would also like to thank the Board of Directors for placing its trust in me. Finally, to the thousands of colleagues across Kraft Heinz that have welcomed and trusted me, I am excited to go into a bright future together.”
