United Airlines said it’s resuming service from the United States to Israel, which was suspended following the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, calling it "the first step in restoring vital passenger and cargo service" between the two nations.
But this is not your typical resumption of service. The carrier (Nasdaq: UAL) will work up to its “goal” of resuming daily nonstop flights between Newark, New Jersey, and Tel Aviv on March 6.
United will resume daily flights from Newark to Tel Aviv on March 2 and 4 that will stop in Munich to “ensure all service providers are ready to support non-stop service to and from Newark.” United has no Newark-to-Tel Aviv flights planned for March 3 and 5.
United said it’s “eager” to resume a second daily Tel Aviv nonstop from Newark in May as travel demand recovers.
The carrier said resumption of nonstop flights to Tel Aviv from its hubs at San Francisco International Airport, Washington Dulles and Chicago O’Hare will be evaluated for resumption starting in the fall.
“United concluded a detailed safety analysis in making this decision, including close work with security experts and government officials in the United States and Israel,” the airline said.
