Dramatic moment Royal Caribbean cruise passengers cheer as American woman, 42, is miraculously rescued after falling overboard from TENTH deck -

  • The 42-year-old passenger, a US citizen, fell 10 floors into the ocean
  • It took just 45 minutes for the rescue mission, which was captured on video
  • She was recovered alive and well and hospitalized when the ship got to Curacao

Nerve-wracking video shows a woman being safely rescued after she had fallen overboard from the tenth deck of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship this past weekend.

The 42-year-old passenger, who has not been identified but is a US citizen, fell overboard at a great distance as Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas was headed toward Willemstad, Curacao about 27 miles south of Puerto Rico.

Fellow passengers attempted to help locate the woman from their perches using binoculars.

The video shows passengers cheering on from their balconies as the crews were able to rescue her within 45 minutes.

It shocked the onlookers to discover that the woman was successfully rescued and made it back onboard in good health, according to the Coast Guard.

'After we saw the life rafts or the life preservers and the smoke – I was like, someone just died,' Matthew Kuhn, one of the passengers watching from the ship, told Fox 35

He noted that his fellow passengers were all trying their best to cooperate with the rescuers.

'I think it was amazing to see everyone was on their balcony. Everyone was trying to help, and the crew was very receptive to everyone,' Kuhn said.

According to the Coast Guard, the passenger didn't even need to be medically evacuated from the ship.

She was kept under observation on the ship's medical facility before she was taken to a hospital in Curacao.

'To go from, 'She's probably not going to be found,' – and… it's a body recovery, versus 'Holy c***, they found her, and she's alive!,' Kuhn exclaimed.

The Coast Guard says they're investigating how the passenger went overboard in the first place.

'The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and began searching for the guest,' a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said in a statement.
