7kg gold worth ₹4 crore seized at Jaipur airport, two arrested
Jaipur: The customs department arrested two passengers who arrived from Dubai on Thursday and seized 7kg of gold worth over Rs 4 crore from them, said officials.
Officials said that based on a tip-off, the two passengers, from Sikar, were caught on Thursday and during checking at the airport, both the passengers were stopped and interrogated. The passengers’ trolley bags were checked, and officials found gold in paste form kept in their luggage.

Custom officials said that it is likely that due to the festive season, smuggling of gold has increased in the past few weeks. Since 2019, over 100 cases of gold smuggling have been reported, said officials. Around 20 cases have been reported so far this year for smuggling of gold.
Officials said that if the gold smuggled is till Rs 50 lakh then it is bailable, if it is till Rs 1 crore or above, the offence is non-bailable.
“We are continuously investigating the cases to catch those involved,” said a senior official. The seized gold is sent to the mint reserves of RBI in Mumbai, he added.
