Motorola’s Releases Two 5G Smartphones In The Budget Tier
Spending as little as $200, you can get access to two new smartphones released by Motorola today: the Moto G and the Moto G Power. Both of these phones come with 5G at an incredibly low price and pack considerable power.
The Moto G 5G
The Moto G 5G (2024) is the cheaper of the two phones unveiled by Motorola today. It’ll set you back $199.99 and cut a lot of corners for that price, but it’s hard to hate what you get.
Instead of plastic, Motorola smartly opted for vegan leather on the back of the phone. It feels better in the hands and is a more premium-feeling option. As is the trend these days, you get a flat frame, though it is made of plastic here. The screen is a 6.6-inch LCD (a downside for AMOLED lovers), and despite being just 720p+, it has a 120Hz refresh rate.
The phone runs on a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and Android 14. It comes in a single configuration which has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; that’s not much, but you get a microSD slot to opt for more space if you need it. There’s a 3.5mm jack too! The battery is 5,000 mAh and can only charge at 18W when wired. There’s no wireless charging, though.
On the camera side, the front snapper is an 8MP model, and the main sensor is 50MP, backed with a 2MP macro. The phone can record FHD at 30fps at the most on both sides.
The Moto G Power 5G
The Moto G Power 5G (2024) is the bigger model, bringing more for a total of $299.99 (the same price as the 2023 model). But how exactly does it improve on the Moto G? First, the design is very similar, with a flat plastic frame and a vegan leather back panel. However, the screen, while staying IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, gets a bump up to 6.7 inches and an FHD+ resolution.
Motorola switches to MediaTek for this phone, with the Dimensity 7020 under the hood. It comes with the same 128GB storage (and expandable storage) but 8GB RAM in this one. If you’re not big on macro lenses, this device gets an 8MP ultrawide instead, alongside a 50MP primary camera that has OIS. The front camera is 16MP. You still get a headphone jack here.
You’ll also find a 5,000 mAh battery here, but you can charge it at 30W, and you even get a 15W wireless charging built-in.
Which 2024 Moto G Model Tickles Your Fancy?
The Motorola Moto G lineup for 2024 is pretty solid for its pricing tier. You won’t get a lot of fancier features, but you shouldn’t expect too many of those for less than $300. The Moto G Power will be available with US carriers from March 22nd, and the Moto G will be available from March 21st.
I’m a fan of what the Moto G Power has to offer, but I’m curious which of these you would go for, and why? Let us know in the comments below.
