United Airlines increases flights to Nicaragua

United Airlines is expanding its Central American operations with the reintroduction of a second daily flight between Houston-Intercontinental and Managua. The airline last operated a second flight in May 2018.

United will have a 4,648-seat weekly offering between Houston and Managua, the airline is the third-largest airline operator in the U.S.-Nicaragua market, where it competes with American Airlines, Spirit and Avianca. It also offers the only non-stop connection between the Nicaraguan capital and Texas.

The second frequency, which will stay overnight at Augusto César Sandino International Airport, will provide customers with convenient connections to multiple destinations in the United States, Europe and Asia through the Houston-Intercontinental hub.

Flight schedule between Houston and Managua

Current schedule:

  • Houston – Managua Flight UA 1432 IAH 09:45 – MGA 12:06 daily flights.
  • Managua – Houston Flight UA 1433 MGA 13:20 – IAH 17:45 daily flights.

Second frequency as of March 8, 2024:

  • Houston – Managua Flight UA 1532 IAH 09:35 – MGA 11:50 daily flights.
  • Managua – Houston Flight UA 1533 MGA 05:45 – IAH 10:10 daily flights.

All services are operated on Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 166 passengers (16 First Class/150 Economy Plus and Economy) and promotional fares are available starting at $776.

United returned to Nicaragua on January 4 of this year after an absence of almost three years. The company suspended operations between Houston and Managua on March 31, 2023. It was also the third U.S. carrier to return to the Nicaraguan capital since American Airlines and Spirit, which resumed service in December 2022.

Houston-Intercontinental is United’s largest hub for connections to Central America, its network includes service to Belize, Guatemala, Liberia/Guanacaste, Managua, Panama, Roatan, San Salvador, San Pedro Sula, San Jose, Costa Rica and Tegucigalpa/Palmerola.
