HCA is the largest health care system in Tampa Bay by number of hospitals and second only to BayCare in the number of licensed beds.

HCA Healthcare announced a data breach impacting up to 11,000 patients across the U.S.

The Tennessee-based company said information included patients’ name, city, state, ZIP code, email, telephone number, date of birth, gender, patient service date, location and next appointment date. However, clinical information, payment information and sensitive information such as passwords, driver’s license numbers and Social Security numbers were not obtained.

The data was obtained through theft from an external storage location used to automate the formatting of email messages. This has not caused any disruption in the day-to-day operations of any HCA facilities, according to the company.

While the exact number of local patients impacted was not immediately available, anyone who received services at one of the following Tampa Bay area HCA hospitals is potentially impacted:

  • HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital
  • HCA Florida Blake Hospital
  • HCA Florida Brandon Hospital
  • HCA Florida Englewood Hospital
  • HCA Florida Largo Hospital
  • HCA Florida Northside Hospital
  • HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital
  • HCA Florida Pasadena Hospital
  • HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital
  • HCA Florida South Shore Hospital
  • HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital
  • HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital
  • HCA Florida Trinity Hospital
  • HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital

The company will mail notifications to impacted patients in the next few weeks and will offer complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services.

HCA is the largest health care system in Tampa Bay by number of hospitals and second only to BayCare in the number of licensed beds. Local HCA hospitals combined for 744,494 patient days and 158,087 admissions in 2022, according to data from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.
