₹97L of gold stolen from trader
Ahmedabad: A gold jewellery manufacturer and trader has been cheated of gold worth Rs 97 lakh by his two employees. The accused stole the gold over a period of time. The unit owner, Mayank Shah, 37, filed a complaint with Ghatlodia police on Saturday naming Mithun Das and Sauvik Das, workers at his jewellery unit, for the crime.
On January 16, Shah saw Mithun, who made gold chains, with excess gold stock.
Shah asked for it, but Mithun allegedly paid no heed. Finding the behaviour suspicious, Shah checked the jewellery made by Mithun and found that the accused had been mixing silver and copper in the jewellery and siphoning off gold. Mithun allegedly had taken nearly 1,100 grams of gold worth Rs 69.30 lakh. It was found that Mithun’s friend Sauvik, too, had been stealing gold meant for the jewellery and taken 437 grams of gold worth Rs 27.53 lakh. Shah approached the police after the duo failed to give satisfactory answers to his questions.
Shah runs a gold jewellery wholesale trading firm in Chandlodia since 2017 and employs 50 workers at his factory. Mithun had been hired for Rs 27,000 a month while Sauvik,was being paid Rs 19,000, according to the FIR.

A woman was arrested for stealing a child's gold chain while babysitting. The stolen chain, worth Rs 72,000, was recovered from a jewelry shop. Another man was also arrested for theft, specifically stealing a car belonging to a Palluruthy native.
