Gold seized at M’luru airport
Mangaluru: Customs at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), have continued their drive against gold smuggling. They seized gold of 24 carat purity weighing 1,273g, valued at Rs 76.5 lakh from three different passengers, between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Officials said smugglers were intercepted after they crossed the green channel. As a result of frisking, scanning of handbag, scanning and open examination of carton box, and detailed interrogation of three passengers, gold of 24 carat purity, weighing 1,273g in total, was recovered from them.

The gold objects in the three cases were concealed by the smugglers in the rectum, air pods and height-adjustable pipe of a child’s scooter. One of the passengers has been arrested in this case, and an investigation is on.

The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Chennai, was booked for electronics smuggling and Customs duty evasion. Investigations are underway.
7kg gold worth 4 crore seized at Jaipur airport, two arrested
Customs officials in Jaipur arrested two passengers arriving from Dubai and seized 7kg of gold worth over Rs 4 crore from them. The passengers, from Sikar, were caught based on a tip-off. Smuggling of gold has increased during the festive season, with over 100 cases reported since 2019. The seized gold will be sent to the mint reserves of RBI in Mumbai. In separate incidents, gold smuggling attempts were also foiled in Hyderabad, Cochin, and Cochin International Airport. Investigations are ongoing.
