Rosalind "Roz" Brewer will be the fourth woman on United Airlines' board.

United Airlines has named Rosalind "Roz" Brewer, the former CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., to its board of directors.

The Chicago-based carrier (Nasdaq: UAL) currently has 13 board members. Brewer would be the board’s fourth woman, joining Carolyn Corvi, Michele Hooper and Laysha Ward.

Brewer became CEO of Walgreens in March 2021 and served until September 2023. She previously served as chief operating officer at Starbucks Corp. and also served as president and CEO of Sam’s Club.

"Roz's strategic acumen and visionary leadership make her the right addition to our already strong board of directors as we plan for the long-term success of United Airlines," said United CEO Scott Kirby in a statement.

Despite what it called “unpredictable headwinds,” United Airlines last month reported fourth-quarter and fiscal 2023 financial results that bested analysts’ expectations.

The airline reported adjusted fourth-quarter earnings of $2 per share and revenues of $13.6 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters First Call had expected earnings of $1.70 per share and revenues of $13.5 billion.

United said it expects to be dinged in the first quarter by the grounding of its Boeing 737 Max 9 airplanes, which were grounded Jan. 6, after a door panel blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 airplane earlier in the month.
