Mom 'drenched' in her own breast milk sues Delta Airlines after they refused to let her on with pump

A mom who was left ‘drenched’ in her own breast milk on a flight is suing Delta Airlines over being asked to discard one of her carry-on bags.
Erika Geraghty, who flew with the carrier in June 2023, says she attempted to board the plane with two bags which contained her breastmilk and a breast pump.
According to her civil complaint, the gate agents told her that she would need to discard or check one of her carry-on bags in order to board the plane.
The mom who was nursing at the time claimed that she tried to 'advocate for her rights as a woman under Delta's policies,' but the airline still refused to let her on board until her luggage was condensed.

According to Delta's policies, the airline 'fully supports a woman’s right to breastfeed' on board their aircrafts and in their facilities.
The policies also indicate that 'breast pumps are allowed on board' their planes.
These rules did not make a difference for Geraghty and she ended up checking her carry-on bag that her breast pump was stored in.
Geraghty was not able to pump breast milk because of this resulting in her having an uncomfortable four-hour flight.
'Plaintiff endured not only the physical agony of breast engorgement but also the emotional trauma of public degradation of her dignity,' read the civil suit.
'Seated and drenched in her own milk gushing from her breasts, which soaked her blouse in front of other passengers and coworkers.'
Geraghty also claims that when she retrieved her checked carry-on bag, she discovered her breast pump was ‘shattered in pieces.’
She felt her choice was between 'the vital sustenance for her son or the indispensable instrument for its procurement'
The incident has allegedly led Geraghty to suffer from a reduction in breast milk production.
She claims that this issue has 'never fully recovered' and that it made it difficult for her to feed her son.
Geraghty is demanding a trial by jury, economic and punitive damages, and civil and statutory penalties against Delta Airlines.
