Tesla driver plows into crowds and other cars in desperate attempt to escape an unruly takeover mob in Chicago - as police stand by doing nothing

This is the horrifying moment a Tesla trapped in Chicago's Lower Wacker Drive was attacked by an unruly flash mob.

Video emerged online of an incident from over the weekend as the flash mob that was part of a takeover sits on top of the vehicle and repeatedly bangs on it. 

The Tesla driver - with his back window smashed out - then speeds up and appears to hit someone with their car as crowds of people smash the car's windows and side-view mirrors. 

It is unclear why the car was specifically attacked, but there was car demonstrations going on during the time of the incident. 

Chicago Police officers were on the scene along with groups of looters and spectators. But police did little in the video to stop the attackers of the Tesla or to disperse the crowd.

The Tesla keeps trying to flee the scene as it scrapes against other cars in the underground roadway, leaving its side-view mirror hanging on by a thread. 

'The driver is getting attacked by the people now,' a nearby police scanner said in one of the videos. 

One person recording from the outside of the car points the camera towards the driver and reveals a person with a black beanie on behind the wheel. 

Someone else sits in the passenger seat as the driver, with a phone in one hand, reverses the white Tesla before it plows through cars driving in the opposite direction. 

The car appears to break free and drive off after the confrontation. 

DailyMail.com reached out to the Chicago Police Department, but officials did not respond in time for this report to provide details about the incident, or if any arrests were made. 

Those involved in the raged encounter wore dark clothing on and masks covering their faces. 

The Tesla driver and passenger have also not been identified. 

Lower Wacker is a multi-level street in Chicago that is hard to navigate for some drivers who are unfamiliar with the road's pattern to drop below ground.

It was developed in 1975 and meant to provide parking spaces for garbage trucks, as well as a place for city storage and trash. 

'Lower Wacker Drive is a whispered wonder. Chicagoans in the know use it as a way to sneak around the congested traffic and stoplights of downtown,' Chicago Tribune reported. 

Car demonstrations have been known to take over Lower Wacker, typically on Friday nights.

During the demonstrations, people drive at fast speeds and are known to make excessive noise that has been heard by residents who neighbor the roadway.

Nikki Bullock, 23, was traveling with her girlfriend and her two kids when they were attacked by a biker traveling with a mob of ATVs and quad bikes on October 1. 

The man who was filmed stomping on her car has since been arrested after members of the public worked to identify him using the now-viral video.

The crime-ridden city of Chicago has experienced an uptick in overall crime by almost a third in September compared to the same time in 2022.

The Defund the Police movement has also taken precedence in the city as Chicago's very own mayor has openly supported it and has knocked down the amount of police presence in the city.
