Japanese financial services group ORIX Corporation (TYO:8591) said today it has signed an agreement with local utility Hokkaido Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9509) to jointly develop an up to 189 MW wind project on Japan's northmost Hokkaido island.

Under the terms of the deal, the duo will conduct wind conditions and environmental impact assessment studies in order to ascertain the project's commercial feasibility.

Named Seiryo Wind Power Generation Project, the scheme should be implemented in Otaki village, Date municipality. In total, the companies estimate Seiryo to feature around 45 wind turbines, each with an individual capacity of 4.2 MW.

No further details on the project or partnership were disclosed.
