AMD Unveils New AI Chip to Challenge NVIDIA

AMD recently introduced a new AMD AI chip that it claims is 50% faster than the competition. The MI300X chip is based on AMD’s CDNA 3 architecture and has 16,000 compute units. It can also use up to 192GB of HBM3 memory, which is twice as much as the NVIDIA H100 chip it is designed to compete with.

The MI300X is AMD’s most advanced AI chip to date, and it is aimed at a variety of customers, including data centers, cloud providers, and research institutions. The chip is expected to be used for a variety of artificial intelligence applications, including the processing of natural languages, computer vision, and machine learning.

AMD’s announcement of the MI300X is a significant step toward challenging NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI market. NVIDIA has been a major player in AI for several years, but AMD is hoping that the MI300X will chip away at its market share.

AMD’s ROCm software stack is now available for the MI300X. ROCm is an open source software platform that allows developers to create and run artificial intelligence (AI) applications on AMD hardware. Read more
