COIMBATORE: The Selvapuram police registered a case against a gold wholesale businessman on Saturday night for cheating a gold ornaments manufacturing company of 16.64 lakh.
The company’s relationship manager A Renold Christopher Roy, of Kondappanaickenpatti in Salem, in his complaint, said Srikanth, of Govindasamy Layout in the city, placed an order to make gold rings on February 13.

“The same day our company manufactured the ornaments. Supervisor Viji Charles and I took the products worth 45,11,300 to Coimbatore and handed them over to Srikanth, who said he did not have money at that time and promised to arrange it the same day. The next day he gave three cheque leaves for the money and asked us to deposit only one cheque leaf of 16 lakh on February 21. When we produced the leaf in a bank, we came to know the account did not have sufficient funds,” Roy said. “When we informed Srikanth, he promised to give the money. He managed to give gold ingots worth 17,46,710 on February 25 and 11 lakh cash in three instalments over the months. But he failed to hand over the remaining amount.”
