Total Energies EP Nigeria Limited, Exxon Mobil, Nigeria-Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Agency have built and donated a block of 10 toilet facilities to the permanent site of the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwolo in Ezeagu Council.

The facility is fitted with a unit of 2000-litre overhead tanks, a 5.5 KVA automatic solar inverter, a borehole with a 5.5HP automatic solar powered submersible pump with perimeter fencing.

Speaking at the commissioning at the weekend,  the Managing Director of Total Energies, Mr. Matthieu Bouyer, said they built the facility “in response to the health challenges posed by infectious diseases and need for preventive healthcare.”

Bouyer, represented by Mrs Touye Osifo, noted that diseases like Ebola and COVID-19 could be checked through proper hygiene.

“Diseases like Ebola and the COVID-19 pandemic have shown that basic hygiene, such as hand washing and sanitary environment can go a long way in protecting the populace from infectious diseases.

“It is for this reason that we decided to embark on this project, which is in line with our commitment to the well-being and economic development of not only our host states, but of the country at large,” he said.

The Chairman of Nigeria-Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Agency (JDA), Dr. Almajiris Geidam, represented by Mrs Gladys Okoroji, said the project was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, which they embarked on the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.

In response to the gesture, the Polytechnic Rector, Nnamdi Nwankwo, represented by Dr. Ejike Ajibo, expressed joy with the project and called for more assistance.

“We are happy with this project.  We shall ensure that it is maintained decently.  While we are happy with what you have done, we expect more from you.”
