NINTENDO Switch fans have been waiting eagerly for the announcement of a console successor, and now it has finally been confirmed.

The President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, came to Twitter to officially reveal, for the first time, that a “successor to Nintendo Switch” does exist and will be the next console from the company.

The tweet reads: “This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.”

Fiscal years are slightly different to calendar years, meaning that the reveal could be anytime between now and March 2025.

Furukawa continues: “It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”

If the Switch 2 pipeline is similar to that of the original switch, we could have the new console in around a year.

The first trailers for the Nintendo Switch were released in October 2016, and the consoles hit the shelves just a few months later in March 2017.

Furukawa also provided fans with another announcement about a previously unannounced Nintendo Direct.

However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up as he confirms this is not when the console will be revealed.

He says: “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

However, as this is the first time that the Switch 2 has been officially confirmed by Nintendo, it appears the console will be arriving sooner than expected.
